Meet our stylist for Draw 415, Jono Fleming.

Esteemed interior designer, Jono Fleming had a wonderful time styling over $304,000 worth of furniture and appliances across our Gold Coast apartment complex.

Let’s get to know more about Jono:

His background includes serving as Style Editor at Inside Out Magazine, and as a Senior Stylist at Temple & Webster, showcasing his ability to forecast trends and understand design nuances. His work, known for pushing the boundaries of interiors, has graced the covers of many design publications. Jono also co-hosts the House of Style podcast, sharing insights into the evolving world of design and is currently a presenter on Channel 7’s 'Sydney Weekender’.

Jono enjoys working with the next generation of designers as a teacher at both the Whitehouse Institute of Design and Sydney Design School. Driven by a belief that design should be accessible and approachable, he inspires future designers to think creatively and ambitiously.

Part of Jono's approach lies in his global design perspective, evident in his maximalist approach of layering pattern, colour, and texture in his work. His design embodies both local and international influences. Through his work, Jono continues to set new standards and inspire in the world of interior design.

Describe what influenced you to style AU415 as you have

Jono: These prize apartments are influenced by the laidback luxury of Californian hotels with a distinctly Australian palette and style. We call it, Vintage Coastal Eclectic, layered spaces with loads of personality. The styling is ready for the winner to add the final touches, bringing their own story to the space, and then sit back and relax. It’s all about comfort and feeling at home.

Where would you entertain someone in this apartment block?

Jono: Each of the apartments come with their own fantastic oceanfront balconies, ready-to-go for entertaining guests. And for those times when you’re up for some fun, there’s a great common area with a bbq and sparkling pool. This area is completed by the stunning, striped parasols and sculptural pool lounges - you’ll never want to get out of them!

What would you do if you won the five apartments?

Jono: To win these five amazing apartments would be such an incredible gift. There are so many options on what you could do. I’d definitely keep the penthouse and enjoy all that it has to offer. The lower apartments also offer a great opportunity to have them as a holiday lease or annual rental income. And with so many built-in spots for entertaining, they’re perfect for people to get together and escape!

How does art influence your room designs?

Jono: Art is such a wonderful way to express personality and style in an apartment. Starting with a strong colour palette, you can then start to pull art together, keeping things tonal but unique at the same time. A gallery wall is a great way to hide a tv, but also makes an eye-catching statement, and easy to change when you want to shake things up!

Top tips for furnishing apartments?

Jono: When furnishing apartments, the goal is to gain as much footprint as possible and design the best layout to maximise space. For these apartments, I pushed dining areas into corners and against walls, to get better access and flow through the floorplans. Pieces that can serve double duty, a stool that works as a side table for example, is a great way to make sure you’re getting the best use of every piece in your home.

How to style your outdoor room into a relaxing oasis

Jono: When styling your outdoor space, think about how you intend to use the area. If it’s for entertaining, a dining or bar setting is perfect but if lounging is key, then there are some great outdoor options. Try not to double up, for example, you don’t need two 6-seater dining tables in one apartment. Treat an outdoor space as a separate room with its own purpose.

Jono: Art doesn’t have to be expensive, but the key to getting that designer-style gallery wall is framing your pieces. Framed artwork will help elevate a space instantly, and they don’t all have to match! Create the Vintage Coastal Eclectic look by mixing and matching your frames.

Jono: The magic of the penthouse apartment is this stunning rooftop space with areas for lounging, a small reading corner and a built-in barbecue with a generous dining table. There’s a plethora of ways to utilise the space. It’s the perfect excuse for inviting friends and family, take in the cool sea breeze and stunning ocean views.
